SUNDAY REFLECTIONS - November 18, 2007
Dear Brother and sisters
Next week, the 25th of November, the Sunday, marks the end of another liturgical year on our calendar of
2007, the year of our Lord. The last Sunday of the year, before advent –the preparation for the birth of our
Lord, the stories of the nativity, and the birth of our Lord and salvation, and the beginning of another
liturgical year and the Church declares that we celebrate a feast in honor of our Savior - Christ as our King.
This is the feast of the success story of Christ in the world and in our lives.
We all know that Ghana will be alive this coming Sunday with the celebration of the feast of Christ the
King. I am sure we all missed the route march and the jubilations to celebrate what Christ our Savior has
done for us. Well, fortunately, we are here in Christ the King. The parish in which we worship is
celebrating Christ as our King on Saturday, 24th Nov, and then on Sunday we as a community will
celebrate the feast in our Ghanaian way. Nana woo baooo! Nana woo baooo! “Cast your burden on to
Jesus for he cares for you”
Yet that is not all, on the 30th of Nov. we want to offer ourselves, our families, friends and the world in a
special prayer session to Christ our King for all the blessings we have received this year and rededicating
ourselves, families and friends to His Majesty protection and blessings for the coming year. We pray that
all of you will be able to attend this special half night of prayers on the 30th. It has been a wonderful
experience for many. Come join hands with Mrs. Cecilia Sakyiamah, brothers Augustine Anyimadu,
Edward Boahene, Charles Kluvi in honoring the Lord for the wonders of his love in songs, worship and
praises.
The readings for this Sunday
First Reading - Malachi 3:19-20a
Second Reading - 2 Thessalonians 3: 7-12
Gospel - Luke 21: 5-19
Today’s readings are pretty much very clear; straight to the point. The end is here what do you do? Or
what will you do? I remembered at the end of the millennium, 1999, there were all kinds of predictions
especially the end of the world. There was supposed to be a “black stone” hanging over ¾ of the sky and
that was to fall over the earth covering ¾ its surface. Thank God, on the last day of the year, 31st of Dec.
1999, in all places there was a heavy down pour of rain. What a miracle! Rain in Dec. in the Desert? Yes!
God ways are not our ways, and his thoughts are far above our thinking. “See that you are not deceived,
many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he’ and ‘the time has come’. Do not follow them!”…
Today’s readings are very powerful readings. I think each one of us should take time to reflect and pray
over them privately. The reason for these readings is that the Church wants us to do a little bit of stock
taking this morning. As next Sunday is a special feast day of the Kingship of Christ, today’s Mass is the
end of the liturgical year. As we begin a new liturgical year, the First Sunday of Advent, next week, the
Church wants us to be honest with ourselves in our stock-taking of how we have led our lives. If the end of
the world were today where will I be? The readings remind us that this world will end. We do not know
when or how but the end it will come. Then Christ the Judge will sit on His throne to judge us.
May we be found worthy of eternal life.
And may God bless us all. Happy feast of Christ the King in advance.
